"Add Elegance to your poverty"

While visiting the Midway Contemporary Art show, "The secret life of objects" On the wall was spraypainted "ADD ELEGANCE TO YOUR POVERTY" with a picket fence. In this she was clearly trying to send a message. I found a source that helps explain what she is doing with this spray paint on the bright white walls. (http://cva-oad-donegan.blogspot.com/2009/10/how-to-add-elegance-to-your-poverty.html) In this piece of art work is trying to tell us that poverty is everywhere. The woman responsible for this moving piece Monica Bovicini from what i've read about her is always tries to portray some sort of message in all of her paintings, drawings, videos ect. http://www.neoaztlan.com/issue-five/art/monica-bonvicini/ This web site is filled with a whole lot of information about her and who she is. I defintaly think it is a website worth checking out and reading into. Its very interesting. Back to this "ADD ELEGANCE TO YOUR POVERTY", It is black spray paint on a blank white wall. Its in all capital letters with a completely regual picket white fence. (obviously outlined in black spray paint.) (As soon as I saw this I wanted to hunt this woman down and have her come to my house and spray paint it on my walls.). I think the reason she put it all in capital letters was to make sure you didnt miss it, and to completely understand it. I think the picket fence is the like saying everyone wants that "American Dream" lifestlye, but most people cant get it with our economy or just bad choises or maybe because of the life you got brought into, wrong place wrong time kinda thing. With those big black capital letters over it...just makes you think, of how lucky you are and how lucky you are to have what you got and how poverty is everywhere...and why havent you helped yet.

"16 Jackies"

When we went to the walker I fell right in love with andy worhols "16 Jackies".

The reason was because I'm a huge fan of Andy Worhol and because I loved what the "16 Jackies" portraid. It showed how you can go from being happy to sad in a split second, how your emotions can change in a split second. We talked about how people wouldnt concider it art because he didnt make it, but the thing is he had the idea, if it wasnt for the idea that peice of art work would never have existed. "What confirms his Modernist chops is the integral power of the images and objects that resulted from his deconstructing."(http://artscenecal.com/ArticlesFile/Archive/Articles2002/Articles0502/AWarholB4.html)

This is what i'm talking about, the reason he made this art work was to get some feelings/some emotions out of people. To have them look at it and think about it. I agree, because even if your doing it art for art sake, your still going to make people think about what they are looking at. Which is what every artist should do.
